identification
description
Sweet, uniform, cylindrical beets, perfect for slicing
Beetroot “Cylindra” ( Beta vulgaris ), offered by OSC Seeds
A highly prized heirloom variety, “Cylindra” produces long , cylindrical roots of exceptional uniformity , resulting in perfectly even slices ideal for canning, pickling, and cooking. Their tender, sweet, dark red flesh cooks quickly and retains its color. The longer roots offer a higher yield per unit area compared to round beets. The flavorful and nutritious leaves can also be eaten as a green.

Planting and maintenance:
Sow when the soil has warmed up, 1–2 cm deep, in rows spaced 30 cm apart. Thin to 8–10 cm to encourage long, well-formed roots. Water regularly to prevent toughness and fibrous rings. Keep the soil loose to allow optimal growth of cylindrical roots. Harvest when the beets reach 15–20 cm in length for a sweet flavor and perfect texture.
