Descended from John Howden's original stock , this line produces uniform , dark orange pumpkins, averaging 11 kg . The deeply rounded fruits, with their thick , firm flesh, are excellent for carving, cooking, and preserving . Highly prized for commercial Halloween crops, this heirloom variety is also tolerant to black rot , further enhancing its reliability in the garden.

Planting and maintenance:
Plant in full sun in rich, loose, well-drained soil. Sow when the soil is warm or start indoors 2–3 weeks before transplanting. Give the vigorous vines plenty of space . Water deeply but not excessively, especially during fruit development. Harvest when the skin is hard and uniformly orange. Allow to dry in the sun for a few days to improve storage.
