A classic and highly regarded variety, 'Waltham Butternut' produces creamy squash weighing 1.5 to 2.3 kg , with smooth, firm skin and a small seed cavity. Its dark orange flesh is sweet and fragrant, developing an even richer flavor after storage . The vigorous and very productive plants yield uniform fruit with a well-defined bulbous end. It is one of the best winter squashes for soup, purée, roasts, and comfort food.

Planting and maintenance:
