Introduced before 1890 , this old cultivar produces beautiful round roots with a purplish-violet top and a pure white base. Its flesh is crisp and mild in flavor, ideal raw, roasted, mashed, or in soups. The tender young leaves can also be eaten in salads . Unlike the swede, this turnip belongs to the species Brassica rapa and matures more quickly.

Planting and maintenance:
