description

Bicolored heirloom turnip, sweet, crunchy and very versatile

Turnip “Purple Top White Globe” ( Brassica rapa subsp. rapa ), offered by OSC Seeds

Introduced before 1890 , this old cultivar produces beautiful round roots with a purplish-violet top and a pure white base. Its flesh is crisp and mild in flavor, ideal raw, roasted, mashed, or in soups. The tender young leaves can also be eaten in salads . Unlike the swede, this turnip belongs to the species Brassica rapa and matures more quickly.

Propagation: Direct sowing
Height/Port: Root
Package size: Approximately 1700 seeds
Harvest time: 50–60 days
Frost tolerance: Frost resistant (harvest before deep frost)
Companion plants: Peas, lettuce, spinach
Incompatible plants: Other closely related brassicas (risk of pests/diseases)

Planting and maintenance:
Sow directly in full sun in loose, deep, well-drained soil. Sow in rows 25–30 cm apart, then thin to 7–10 cm to allow for well-formed roots. Water regularly to prevent bitterness and maintain a crisp texture. Harvest when the roots have reached their full purple-white color and are uniform in size.

The availability of our seeds varies depending on seasonal availability, production schedules and supplier inventory.
