Radish 'French Breakfast'
Long, scarlet red French radish, tender and deliciously sweet
“French Breakfast” radish ( Raphanus sativus ), offered by OSC Seeds
A heritage variety cultivated since the late 1870s , “French Breakfast” produces beautiful scarlet roots tipped with white , measuring 10 to 15 cm in length. Their flesh is crisp , mild , and surprisingly sweet , making it a popular summer radish for over a century. It grows quickly but remains more tender and sweet in cool weather and consistently moist soil.
Propagation: Direct sowing
Height/Port: Root
Package size: Approximately 350 seeds
Harvest time: 25–35 days
Frost tolerance: Resistant to light frost
Companion plants: Lettuce, spinach, peas
Incompatible plants: Other radishes and closely related brassicas (to avoid pest pressure)
Planting and maintenance:
Sow in full sun in loose, cool, well-drained soil. Space rows 20–30 cm apart, then thin to 3–6 cm , depending on the desired root size. Water regularly to maintain consistent moisture: dry soils make the roots fibrous or pungent. Cooler temperatures extend the harvest period and improve flavor.
