Cucamelon (Melothria scabra), Offered by Catherine's Ornamental Vegetable Garden



Cucamelon , also called mouse melon or Mexican miniature watermelon , is a vigorous climbing plant that produces small oval fruits resembling mini watermelons . Their crisp, tangy flesh , with a taste reminiscent of cucumber with a hint of lemon , makes them an excellent fresh snack or an original ingredient for salads and marinades .



Hardy and easy to grow , it is more resistant to disease and drought than traditional cucumbers . Its dense, ornamental foliage also makes it an excellent climbing plant for trellises or pergolas .
