Mexican Sunflower 'Torch' (Tithonia rotundifolia), Offered by Le Potager Ornemental de Catherine


Also called the Sun of Mexico, the Mexican Sunflower 'Torch' offers a flamboyant bloom with its scarlet orange flowers perched on slender stems reaching up to 2 meters in height.


Its long flowering period from July to September brightens the garden while attracting a wide variety of pollinators, including butterflies, bees, bumblebees and hummingbirds. Easy to grow, this vigorous annual flourishes in beds as well as seasonal hedges.

Cultivation method


This sunflower appreciates full sun and rich, well-drained soil .


Sowing can be done indoors 4 to 8 weeks before the last frost, followed by transplanting when the outdoor temperature is above 10°C. It is also possible to sow it directly in the open ground once the risk of frost has passed.


Seeds should be buried 6 mm deep, with a spacing of 60 cm between plants, ensuring optimum growth and good stem development.


With ideal conditions, germination reaches 82% (December 2024) , guaranteeing generous flowering throughout the summer.
