Coneflower SunSeekers 'Golden Sun'. The yellow flowers of this SunSeekers selection illuminate a plant about 50 cm (19.7 in) tall. Their colour suits a sunny border, where it can echo orange tones or brighten a pinker group. Flowering mainly occurs in summer. Its intermediate scale allows several yellow touches to be distributed through the planting rather than relying on one large clump to carry all the warm colour. Its botanical name is Echinacea 'Golden Sun'. New flowers and older heads can show different colours on the same coneflower. Consider the scene before, during and after flowering. Treat the flowering period as a seasonal reference rather than a guaranteed date.
Choose an exposure of full sun for this selection. Drainage is decisive for a coneflower: persistent wetness around the crown can compromise establishment and wintering. For a nursery plant, favour establishment that gives roots time to explore free-draining ground before difficult conditions arrive. During establishment, the original root ball can dry out even when surrounding soil looks moist. Water slowly enough for moisture to enter the soil rather than run off its surface. Seek balanced growth supporting stems and flowers rather than rapidly enlarged foliage. Adapt mulch to the planting site and the genus’s requirements. For a nursery plant already growing in a container, moisten the root ball before removing the pot.
These coneflowers are ornamental selections intended for borders and containers. Compact series bring heads close to view and restrain stem height in container compositions. A low plant can be broad. The flowers attract bees and butterflies. Place plant accents where they can be appreciated, then arrange surrounding volumes around them. Retain some visible space between groups so the composition remains legible once plants develop, rather than filling every gap immediately with additional specimens. Plan the planting around mature spread rather than the small size of the purchased plant. Leave access to reach specimens in the middle of the bed.
