Perennial Lupine – A Jewel of the Canadian Prairies

Wild lupin seeds (Lupinus perennis) , offered by the OSC seed company.

Native to Ontario, this rare perennial offers abundant blooms of deep blue flowers delicately shaded with white from spring to summer. The typical pea-like flowers are produced on terminal spikes up to 20 cm long. Ideal for sandy and poor soils, this lupine fixes nitrogen and helps enrich the soil. Mature height of approximately 45 cm. An excellent option for sunny or partially shaded gardens, attracting bees and other pollinators.

Spread: 30-40 cm.
Plant height: 45 cm.
Quantity per pack: Approx 40 seeds/pkt.
Companion plants: Echinacea, rudbeckia, asters.
Enemy plants: Plants requiring rich, moist soil.

How to Grow:

Sow seeds indoors or directly in the fall for spring germination. Soak seeds in lukewarm water for 24 hours before planting in fiber pots to avoid disturbing the roots. Maintain a temperature of 15-20°C for germination in 15-20 days. After hardening off, transplant seedlings into sandy, well-drained soil in full sun to partial shade.

Add an authentic touch to your garden with this rare perennial lupin, which combines beauty, resilience and ecological usefulness.
