Philadelphus coronarius ‘Aureus’, also known as golden mock orange ‘Aureus’, is a deciduous ornamental shrub with a rounded, dense habit, valued as much for its bright yellow foliage as for its abundant and fragrant flowering. In spring, its young leaves emerge a brilliant golden yellow, illuminating flower beds even before flowering. In early summer, it is covered in simple, creamy-white flowers, intensely fragrant, reminiscent of orange blossom and attracting pollinators. Its foliage may become a softer yellow-green in summer, especially in very sunny locations. Philadelphus coronarius ‘Aureus’ prefers full sun to partial shade exposure and well-drained soil rich in organic matter. Ideal in a free-standing hedge, in a flower bed, or as a focal point, it brings color, fragrance, and structure to residential gardens.
