Physocarpus opulifolius 'Panther', known as 'Panther' ninebark, is a highly prized deciduous ornamental shrub admired for the exceptional intensity of its dark foliage. This variety forms a dense, rounded bush that integrates perfectly into informal hedges, shrub beds, and structured borders. Its deeply cut foliage emerges in spring in very dark purple, almost black, shades, creating a spectacular contrast with light-foliaged plants. In early summer, delicate pinkish-white flowers grouped in corymbs appear above the foliage, attracting pollinators. After flowering, small decorative reddish fruits extend the plant's visual appeal. Very hardy and easy to maintain, this ninebark tolerates ordinary soils, urban conditions, and cold climates well.
