Latin name
Picea pungens 'Procumbens'
Common name
Colorado Blue Spruce 'Procumbens'
Type
Coniferous
Family
Pinaceae

Picea pungens 'Procumbens', also known as the creeping blue spruce 'Procumbens', is a unique ornamental conifer prized for its sprawling habit and remarkable silvery-blue coloration. This variety develops an irregular, broadly horizontal silhouette where the branches spread along the ground or cascade slightly, forming a dense and decorative carpet over time. Its stiff, steel-blue to silvery-blue needles create a luminous contrast in rockeries, embankments, conifer beds, and alpine gardens. Thanks to its natural habit and slow to moderate growth, this spruce can be used as an original ground cover or trained on a stake to create a spectacular weeping form. Very hardy and tolerant, it prefers full sun and well-drained soil while tolerating poor soils and cold climatic conditions.
