Organic ‘Mountain Longhorn’ hot pepper (Capsicum annuum ‘Thunder Mountain Longhorn’) is a spectacular Chinese variety from Guizhou associated with the Leigongshan, or Thunder Mountains. It produces exceptionally long, thin, often curved fruit ripening from green to bright red. Thin walls simplify drying and smoking, while aromatic flavour and moderate to strong heat suit Asian cuisines. The Biologiquement Vôtre workbook lists approximately 10 seeds, height of 60–90 cm, and spread near 40 cm.
Sow indoors February through April, approximately eight to ten weeks before last frost, 0.5–1 cm deep. Maintain 24–30°C and even moisture; emergence requires approximately 7–14 days. After germination provide intense light, pot up before roots become confined, and harden gradually. Transplant after frost once nights remain above approximately 10°C, into rich well-drained soil in full sun. A 15–20 L container suits one plant, and a light stake can support fruit-laden branches.
The supplier workbook places harvest around 80 days after transplanting while external sources commonly list 80–90 days. Pick green for stir-fries or allow fruit to redden for sauces, marinades, flakes, and powders. Thin walls speed drying, but drying must be complete before storage to prevent mould. Scoville rating and exact length vary among lines and conditions; no precise value is guaranteed for this lot. Wear gloves if skin is sensitive.
