Capsicum annuum ‘Prik Chi Faa’ — Prik Chi Faa Hot Pepper. Transplant only when nights are mild and any risk of frost has passed. Choose a sunny exposure and a loose, fertile, moist and well-drained soil. Water deeply when the surface begins to dry, allowing moisture to reach the roots without leaving standing water. Work mature compost into the soil before planting, then fertilize moderately according to the strength of the plants’ growth. A light layer of mulch helps maintain more consistent moisture and limits competition from weeds. In Quebec, watch cool nights and adapt the calendar to the last local freeze. This variety is suitable for Thai cuisine, curry, sauces, sautéed, marinades, drying and pepper powder.
Sowing hot pepper seeds: sow inside from February to April, about 8 to 10 weeks before the last frost. Transplant only when nights are mild and any risk of frost has passed. The depth to be respected is 5 mm. Germination usually takes 7-10 days. For germination, keep the soil at 26 to 30°C (79 to 86°F). Young peppers and peppers enjoy stable heat and abundant light after emergence. Pot up the plants before the roots become crowded at the bottom of the cells, handling the root ball without pulling on the stem.
Prik Chi Faa Thai pepper produces elongated fruit that can be added gradually to dishes when a little heat is wanted. Prepare your hot chilli seedlings, then wait for mild nights to install the plants outside. Place this warm season crop in a sheltered part of the vegetable garden. An easily accessible row lets you watch the fruit change colour without having to move the stems roughly out of the way. Match it with moderate-sized vegetables that won't shade it. The plants can also grow beside a sunny patio, where their proximity makes it easier to gather small amounts for use in the kitchen.
