The Rocoto Turbo chili pepper, also called Turbo Pube, is a productive variety of Capsicum pubescens originating from Ecuador. This chili pepper is distinguished by its fleshy fruits shaped like small peppers or eggs, which are highly prized in traditional South American cuisine, particularly in Peru.
Like all rocoto peppers, this variety has unique characteristics: black seeds, slightly fuzzy foliage, and beautiful purple flowers. The fruits offer thick, juicy, and very aromatic flesh with an intense fruity flavor.
The Rocoto Turbo develops a medium to high heat reminiscent of a very hot jalapeño or a milder habanero. Its meaty texture makes it particularly popular for stuffing, using in sauces and salsas. The plant is robust and can grow quite large, while also being relatively cold-tolerant compared to other chili varieties.

pot culture
The Rocoto Turbo can be grown in a pot, but requires a large container of at least 20 liters to support its vigorous growth. Place the plant in a sunny or partially shaded location. This variety tolerates cooler temperatures better than most chili peppers, which can extend the growing season. Regular fertilization will help maintain abundant production.
Uses and specific features
This chili pepper is particularly prized in Peruvian cuisine, notably for the famous stuffed rocoto. Its thick, juicy flesh also makes it an excellent choice for sauces, salsas, and stews. The black seeds and purple flowers also make this plant very decorative in the garden.
