Beli Kalvil Sweet Pepper organic seeds
Capsicum annuum
Product code : GAIAS-0180
Beli Kalvil Sweet Pepper organic seeds (Capsicum annuum) This Serbian heirloom produces a sweet tomato-type pepper on low, bushy plants. The thick-fleshed fruit changes from creamy white to yellow and finally red at full maturity. Gaia describes compact peppers about 2.5 cm long and 3 to 3.5 cm wide. Their shape and texture make them especially suitable for stuffing, pickling, salads, and stir-fries. Because Beli Kalvil is open pollinated, gardeners can also save seed from plants grown far enough from other peppers to reduce unwanted cross-pollination in nearby gardens.
Sow Beli Kalvil pepper seeds indoors 6 to 8 weeks before transplanting. Plant them about 1.3 cm deep in a light seed-starting mix. Maintain 25 to 32°C, ideally 27 to 31°C according to Gaia; germination generally takes 7 to 21 days. After emergence, provide bright light and consistently good air circulation indoors. Harden the seedlings off gradually, then transplant after the soil has warmed and all danger of frost has passed. Keep the growing mix evenly moist during germination without leaving standing water around the developing roots.
Grow plants in full sun and fertile, well-drained soil, spacing them about 30 to 46 cm apart. Their compact habit reaches approximately 61 to 76 cm tall and 46 to 61 cm wide. Maturity generally takes 60 to 90 days. Maintain even soil moisture during flowering and fruit development without overwatering. Harvest the first pepper promptly to encourage continued production. Pick later fruit while pale and firm, or allow it to ripen red for a sweeter flavour. The packet contains 20 certified organic seeds for this productive Serbian heritage variety.
