Discover the plant
Organic orange ‘Habanada’ sweet pepper (Capsicum chinense ‘Habanada’) was bred at Cornell to retain habanero’s fruity, tropical, floral aroma without its burning heat. Elongated, lightly wrinkled fruit changes from green to bright orange at full maturity, when aroma is most expressive. The Biologiquement Vôtre workbook lists approximately 25 seeds, height of 60–90 cm, and spread near 40 cm. The lot is organic, not heirloom, and declared non-open-pollinated in the supplier register.
Sow indoors February through April, approximately eight to ten weeks before last frost, 0.5–1 cm deep. Maintain 24–30°C and even moisture; emergence requires approximately 10–21 days. After germination provide intense light, pot up before roots become confined, and harden gradually. Transplant after all frost risk into the warmest garden position, in full sun and fertile, organic-rich, well-drained soil. A 15–25 L container suits one plant.
The supplier workbook places harvest around 95 days after transplanting, corresponding to the desired orange maturity. Green fruit is edible earlier, but sweetness and tropical notes deepen as it turns orange. Use it raw, grilled, sautéed, stuffed, in salsa, or in sauce for habanero character without heat. Unexpected variation remains possible in a garden, so taste a small piece before sensitive service. Exact dimensions, guaranteed yield, and disease resistance are not confirmed for this lot.
