Common name
'Skeena' Cherry
Type
Fruit tree
Family
Rosaceae

Prunus cerasus ‘Skeena’ is a vigorous and productive sweet cherry tree successfully grown in Quebec in well-protected zone 4b. It is distinguished by its abundant dark red to blackish-red fruits, which are juicy and sweet with a slight tartness, excellent for fresh consumption, desserts, preserves, or drying. Its naturally rounded habit and large size (up to 8 m) make it an excellent choice for family orchards and spacious gardens. Its white spring blossoms attract a wide variety of pollinators. Although partially self-fertile, the presence of another compatible cherry tree significantly increases production. ‘Skeena’ requires full sun exposure, fresh, well-drained, and neutral to slightly alkaline soil, and offers excellent tolerance to diseases and winter conditions in southern Quebec.
