Prunus avium ‘Sweetheart’ is a sweet cherry tree highly prized for its large, flavorful fruits, offering firm, juicy, and sweet flesh, perfect for fresh consumption, desserts, preserves, and jellies. Although less hardy than some sour cherry varieties, it can be successfully grown in Quebec in zone 5 (or even 4b with good protection) when it benefits from full sun exposure, well-drained, neutral to slightly alkaline soil, and good shelter from cold winds. This cultivar features white blossoms in spring that attract pollinators, followed by green foliage that turns yellow in autumn. Self-fertile, ‘Sweetheart’ yields a generous harvest when planted with another compatible sweet cherry tree. Its growth is moderate to vigorous, and its rounded shape provides a beautiful presence in a family orchard or a large garden.
