Prunus domestica 'Crescent' is a hybrid plum tree resulting from the cross between 'Shiro' (Prunus salicina) and 'Howard Yellow' (Prunus americana), developed by the University of Minnesota in 1923. This cultivar is distinguished by its medium-sized plums, with pale yellow skin sometimes tinged with pink, and golden yellow flesh that is juicy, tender, and very sweet, with aromatic notes reminiscent of apricot. These fruits are ideal for fresh eating, canning, and baking. 'Crescent' is a vigorous tree with a spreading habit, offering abundant spring blooms that attract pollinators. Not self-fertile, it requires the presence of another compatible plum variety to ensure effective pollination. This cultivar is particularly suited to cold climates and well-drained soils, making it an excellent choice for gardeners seeking a hardy, productive, and flavorful plum variety.
