description
Organic Radish ‘Biomix’ (Raphanus sativus) is a colorful, fast-growing, easy-to-grow annual mix, perfect for bringing freshness to the vegetable garden from the first weeks of spring. Its red, white, pink, and purple roots provide a varied, crisp, and decorative harvest that looks beautiful both in bunches and on the plate. The bright green foliage reaches approximately 15 to 25 cm (6 to 10 in) in height and adds lively texture to garden beds, raised beds, and containers. Harvested young, about 25 days after sowing, these radishes offer a tender texture and a pleasant, slightly peppery flavor, ideal for raw vegetable platters and salads.
Organic Radish ‘Biomix’ is direct sown outdoors from April to September, as soon as the soil can be worked in Canada. It prefers cool temperatures between 10 and 20°C (50 to 68°F), as well as light, loose, slightly acidic to neutral, well-drained soil. Sow seeds about 1 cm (3/8 in) deep, then thin seedlings to leave approximately 5 cm (2 in) between roots. Consistent moisture is essential for producing crisp, uniform radishes with minimal fibrousness. Successive sowings every two or three weeks help extend harvests throughout the season, either in open ground or containers.
In the garden, Organic Radish ‘Biomix’ is ideal for family vegetable gardens, educational gardens, edible beds, and shallow 10 to 15 L (3 to 4 gal) containers. It grows well alongside parsley, carrots, onions, and beans, while avoiding proximity to hyssop and brassicas whenever possible. Its rapid growth makes it useful between slower-growing vegetables, helping maximize cultivated space. If a few plants are allowed to flower, their small white to pink blooms attract bees and other pollinators, adding ecological value to the vegetable garden.
