Sambucus canadensis 'Scotia'
Sambucus canadensis 'Scotia', commonly known as 'Scotia' Canadian elderberry, is a vigorous deciduous shrub with a bushy, spreading habit, known for its high productivity and fruit quality. In early summer, it produces large, flat umbels composed of small, creamy-white flowers, lightly fragrant and very attractive to pollinators. In late summer, these are followed by abundant clusters of purplish-black berries, rich in antioxidants and excellent for making syrups, jellies, jams, and wines after cooking. Its medium-green foliage forms a dense mass ideal for fruit hedges, naturalized gardens, or ecological plantings. Very hardy and reliable in cold climates, Sambucus canadensis 'Scotia' prefers rich, fresh to slightly moist soil and a sunny exposure to ensure a generous harvest.
