Sambucus nigra 'Laciniata'
Sambucus nigra ‘Laciniata’, commonly known as cutleaf black elderberry, is a vigorous deciduous shrub with a bushy, spreading habit, notable for its elegantly finely cut foliage. Its deeply laciniate, medium-green leaves bring a light and airy texture to borders and informal hedges. In early summer, it is covered with large umbels of small, delicately scented, cream-white, melliferous flowers, followed later in the season by pendulous clusters of purplish-black berries, edible after cooking. These antioxidant-rich fruits are prized for jellies, syrups, and jams. Suited for naturalized gardens and ecological plantings, Sambucus nigra ‘Laciniata’ prefers rich, cool, well-drained soil and a sunny to partially shaded exposure to ensure vigorous growth and abundant fruiting.
