Sorbaria sorbifolia
Sorbaria sorbifolia, also known as false spiraea or ash-leaf spiraea, is a vigorous deciduous shrub with a bushy, suckering habit, prized for its finely cut foliage reminiscent of rowan. In spring, its young shoots emerge tinged with pinkish bronze before turning soft green in summer, then golden yellow in autumn. In early summer, it is covered with large, creamy white, feathery panicles, very decorative and nectar-rich, which bring lightness and brightness to borders. Ideal for informal hedges, natural screens, or for stabilizing a bank, Sorbaria sorbifolia tolerates a wide range of soils, even fresh to moist ones. Hardy and easy to grow, it is perfectly suited to northern gardens where it offers extended ornamental interest and a beautiful structuring presence.
