Spinach 'America Riccio' (Spinacia oleracea), offered by the seed company Weston Seeds

Spinach 'Amérique Riccio' is a curly heirloom variety, renowned since the early 1900s as the standard for Savoy spinach. Its broad, fleshy, dark green leaves with a glossy texture are perfect raw in salads or cooked for savory dishes. Resistant to sun and heat, this spinach is fast growing, allowing for abundant harvests in spring, summer and often into fall.

Days to maturity: 30 to 45 days
Leaf size: 6 to 8 inches
Height: 10 to 12 inches
Spacing: 12 to 14 inches
Sowing: Indoor/direct
Exposure: Full sun/partial shade
Quantity per pack:  untreated, non-GMO seeds

Cultivation method:

Sow 'America Riccio' spinach seeds as soon as the soil can be worked in spring, 1/2" (12 mm) deep and 1" (2.5 cm) apart, in rows 12 to 18" (30 to 45 cm) apart. After germination, thin the plants to 2 to 3" (5 to 7.5 cm) apart. Repeat sowing every two weeks until late spring for continuous production.

For a fall harvest, plant in mid to late August. This spinach tolerates full sun exposure, but also thrives in partially shaded areas, especially in warmer climates. Maintain well-drained soil and regular watering to encourage optimal growth.

Prized for its rich flavor and culinary versatility, 'America Riccio' spinach is a must-have for gardeners seeking bountiful, flavorful harvests.

A classic heritage variety, perfect for generous and nutritious vegetable gardens!
