Prairie Grass ( Sporobolus heterolepis ) from Northern Wildflowers is an elegant native perennial perfect for naturalized gardens and meadows.
Growing to a height of 30-90cm, it flowers from July to August, producing delicate inflorescences that add fine texture to the garden. Ideal for sites in full sun and dry to average soils, this grass is resistant to juglone, allowing it to be planted near walnut trees. Its seeds provide food for birds, and its fountain-shaped foliage remains attractive in winter if not pruned.

Cultivation method:
Prairie Grass prefers well-drained, dry to medium soil and full sun exposure. It is ideal for naturalized gardens, meadows and dry areas. Once established, it is drought tolerant and tolerates harsh conditions. The grass remains attractive in winter if left unpruned, providing year-round visual interest and feeding birds. Direct sowing in open areas after all danger of frost is recommended.
