Sweet marjoram (Origanum majorana), offered by the seed company Weston Seeds

Sweet marjoram is an aromatic herb prized for its delicately scented leaves with a sweet taste. Ideal in vinaigrettes, soups, salads and hearty meat dishes, it is often considered a staple of Mediterranean cuisine. This vigorous plant can grow up to 2 feet tall and is sometimes called "sweet oregano" because of its similar but more subtle flavor. Although perennial in zones 7 and warmer, it is commonly grown as an annual in cooler climates.

Days to maturity : 90 to 120 days
Height : 36 to 56 cm
Spacing : 18 to 24 inches
Sowing : Indoor or direct sowing
Exposure : Full sun to partial shade
Quantity per pack : Untreated, non-GMO seeds

Cultivation method:

Sow directly outdoors in well-drained, sunny soil between late May and mid-June. Seeds can also be started indoors 6-8 weeks before the last frost, in a soilless mix, at a temperature of 70°F (21°C). Once germinated (7-14 days), maintain a slightly lower temperature before hardening off and transplanting the seedlings outdoors after the last frost.

Sow seeds 1/4" (6mm) deep and space 1/4" (6mm) apart before thinning to 5" (12.5cm) in the garden. Marjoram prefers full sun but will tolerate light partial shade.

A versatile and easy to grow herb!
