description

Organic Japanese Black Trifele Tomato (Solanum lycopersicum) is an indeterminate heirloom annual variety valued for its dark pear-shaped fruits in reddish-brown to mahogany tones. In the vegetable garden, it stands out with its vigorous 1.8 to 2.1 m (6 to 7 ft) habit and original clusters that bring strong ornamental value among more classic tomatoes. Its dense, meaty, low-moisture flesh offers a rich, complex, slightly smoky flavor highly prized for fresh tasting. It is excellent in salads, sandwiches, tasting platters, and artisan sauces, with harvests beginning about 75 days after sowing.

Organic Japanese Black Trifele Tomato should be sown indoors from February to April, about 0.5 cm (1/4 in) deep, at a steady temperature of 22 to 28°C (72 to 82°F). Germination is usually quick, in 5 to 10 days, when seedlings receive proper warmth and light. After the last frosts, hardened-off plants can be transplanted into full sun, in fertile, organic-rich, slightly acidic to neutral, well-drained soil. It is suitable for both in-ground planting and large 30 to 40 L containers. A sturdy stake, deep watering, organic mulch, and balanced fertilization support extended production.

In the edible garden, Organic Japanese Black Trifele Tomato belongs in decorative and productive vegetable gardens where originality, yield, and eating quality are desired. Its dark fruits add remarkable visual diversity to summer harvests, while their good storage quality makes them useful fresh or cooked. Basil, chives, and parsley are excellent companion plants, while rotation with other nightshades helps reduce certain crop issues. Its yellow flowers attract bees and other pollinating insects, encouraging abundant fruit set, steady harvests, and beneficial biodiversity in the vegetable garden.
