Organic marbled tomato 'Maglia Rosa'
Organic Maglia Rosa Marbled Tomato (Solanum lycopersicum) is a compact, highly productive semi-determinate annual variety valued for its small elongated fruits marbled with pink, red, and sometimes yellow. With its 90 to 120 cm (3 to 4 ft) habit, it brings exceptional ornamental value to family vegetable gardens, urban gardens, containers, and sunny patios. Its juicy, mild, fruity, and balanced flesh makes it perfect for fresh eating, salads, snacks, appetizers, tasting platters, and quick recipes. Early and generous, it usually produces its first fruits about 55 days after transplanting.
Organic Maglia Rosa Marbled Tomato should be sown indoors from March to April, about 0.5 cm (1/4 in) deep, at a steady temperature of 21 to 27°C (70 to 81°F). Germination usually takes 7 to 14 days when seedlings receive proper warmth and light. After the last frosts, hardened-off plants can be transplanted into full sun, in fertile, organic-rich, slightly acidic to neutral, well-drained soil. It grows exceptionally well in 30 to 40 cm (12 to 16 in) diameter containers. Light support, deep regular watering, organic mulch, and moderate fertilization support abundant production.
In the edible garden, Organic Maglia Rosa Marbled Tomato is ideal for small spaces, urban vegetable gardens, edible landscapes, and collections of unusual tomatoes where earliness, beauty, and flavor are desired. Its colorful fruits attract attention in both the garden and on the plate while providing continuous harvests from June to September. Basil, chives, and parsley are good companion plants, while rotation with other nightshades helps reduce certain crop issues. Its yellow flowers attract bees, bumblebees, and other pollinating insects, supporting good fruiting and beneficial biodiversity in the vegetable garden.
