Organic pink tomato 'Trucker Favorite'
Organic Trucker Favorite Pink Tomato (Solanum lycopersicum) is a vigorous, productive indeterminate heirloom annual variety valued for its large, smooth, meaty pink fruits. With plants reaching 180 to 240 cm (6 to 8 ft), it brings a bold presence to the vegetable garden while adding impressive ornamental value through its abundant harvests. Its dense, juicy, mild, well-balanced flesh makes it an outstanding slicing tomato, perfect for fresh eating, salads, sandwiches, thick slices, tasting platters, and summer recipes. Fruits generally reach maturity about 80 days after sowing, depending on growing conditions.
Organic Trucker Favorite Pink Tomato should be sown indoors from February to April, about 0.5 cm (1/4 in) deep, at a steady temperature of 22 to 28°C (72 to 82°F). Germination is usually rapid, in 5 to 10 days, when seedlings receive adequate warmth and light. After the last frosts, hardened-off plants can be transplanted into full sun, in fertile, organic-rich, slightly acidic to neutral, well-drained soil. It can be grown in large 45 to 50 cm (18 to 20 in) diameter containers but performs best when planted directly in the ground. A sturdy stake, deep watering, organic mulch, and balanced fertilization support the development of its large fruits.
In the edible garden, Organic Trucker Favorite Pink Tomato is ideal for family vegetable gardens, gourmet gardens, food self-sufficiency projects, and heirloom tomato collections. Its vigorous growth provides generous harvests from June through August while adding a classic, abundant look to edible landscapes. Basil, chives, and parsley are excellent companion plants, while rotation with other nightshades helps reduce certain crop health issues. Its yellow flowers attract bees, bumblebees, and other pollinating insects, supporting excellent fruit set and beneficial biodiversity in the vegetable garden.
