Tomato 'Roma VF' (Solanum lycopersicum), offered by the seed company Weston Seeds

The 'Roma VF' tomato is a classic heirloom variety, ideal for sauces and tomato pastes. The compact, determinate plants produce fleshy, paste-like fruits with few seeds. Resistant to common diseases such as Verticillium and Fusarium, this variety guarantees a reliable harvest. Its medium-sized fruits are ideal for canning and home cooking.

Cultivation method:

Sow seeds indoors 6 to 8 weeks before the last expected spring frost date. Use a peat moss-based growing mix and maintain a temperature of 70 to 75°F (21 to 24°C) for quick germination.

When plants reach 4 cm (1.75"), transplant them into individual pots and reduce the temperature to 15 to 18°C (59 to 65°F). After hardening off, transplant them into well-drained organic soil, spacing the plants 60 cm (24") apart for this determinate variety.

Water the soil directly to prevent diseases, especially in very dry weather. Apply straw mulch around the plants to conserve moisture and prevent soil splashing that could spread diseases. Maintain consistent irrigation to prevent problems such as fruit cracking or blossom-end rot.

A robust and versatile tomato!

The 'Roma VF' tomato is the perfect choice for gardeners looking for a productive and resistant variety. Ideal for sauces, soups or preserves, this tomato guarantees abundant and tasty harvests throughout the summer. A must-have for your vegetable garden!
