Open ground method
1Choose a bright location , with sun or partial shade .
2Prepare a rich and well-drained soil , while maintaining good humidity.
3Plant the bulb about 10 cm deep , point upwards.
4Water generously after planting and keep the soil constantly moist.
Pot method (ideal for controlling humidity and overwintering the plant)
1Use a large pot (at least 30 cm in diameter) with good drainage.
2Fill with a mixture of rich potting soil and compost .
3Plant the bulb 10 cm deep , water abundantly.
4Place the pot in full sun or partial shade , making sure to maintain constant humidity .
Tip : Colocasia likes moist soil but does not tolerate standing water. Add a saucer of water under the pots to maintain optimal hydration.
Wintering – What to do after summer
Colocasia is not hardy in cold climates (zones 7 and below). It must be brought inside before the first frosts .
Two options for wintering:
1In a pot : Bring the plant indoors, place it in a bright location and reduce watering.
2In the ground : Dig up the bulb after the first frost, let it dry for a few days , then store it in a cool, dry, dark place, such as a basement or frost-free garage.
Tip : The following spring, replant the bulb for a new season of spectacular foliage!
