Dahlia 'Bristol Stripe'
It produces spectacular marbled blooms that immediately capture attention. Its outstanding vase life and long flowering season make it a favourite for both gardens and floral arrangements.
Bristol Stripe Dahlia (Dahlia pinnata ‘Bristol Stripe’) is a spectacular tuberous perennial distinguished by its large, fully double creamy white flowers delicately streaked with lavender-purple. Each bloom displays a slightly different marbled pattern, giving the plant a refined and original appearance. From July through October, flowers are produced generously above dense, vigorous, dark green foliage. Reaching 90 to 110 cm (35 to 43 in) tall, this variety quickly becomes a striking focal point in summer landscapes. Not hardy in Canada, it should be overwintered in a frost-free location.
Plant the tuber in spring after all danger of frost has passed and the soil has thoroughly warmed, approximately 10 to 12 cm (4 to 5 in) deep. Choose a location in full sun with rich, loose, humus-rich, evenly moist, and well-drained soil, spacing plants 40 to 50 cm (16 to 20 in) apart. Water regularly without allowing the soil to become waterlogged, and fertilize every two to three weeks with a fertilizer high in potassium. Remove spent blooms regularly to encourage continuous bud production. Lift the tubers before the first autumn frost and store them in a cool, dry, frost-free location until spring.
Bristol Stripe Dahlia is ideal for elegant garden beds, flowering borders, large containers, and cut flower gardens. Pair it with cosmos, salvias, Verbena bonariensis, and ornamental grasses to create refined displays with soft, contrasting tones. Its fully open blooms have excellent vase life and are perfect for sophisticated floral arrangements throughout the season. The flowers also attract bees, butterflies, and many other pollinating insects. Petals from untreated plants may be used with care as a decorative garnish for selected dishes.
