Dahlia pinnata ‘Cherry Flambe’
Discover the plant
Cherry Flambe Dahlia Mix (Dahlia pinnata ‘Cherry Flambe’) is a spectacular blend of decorative and cactus dahlias featuring rich shades of cherry red and deep burgundy. The contrast between the fully double blooms and the finely pointed cactus petals creates exceptional texture and visual interest in the garden. From July through October, the large flowers bloom continuously on vigorous plants reaching approximately 100 cm (40 in) tall. This fast-growing selection delivers a bold, fiery display throughout the summer. A tender Zone 10 perennial, it is not hardy in Quebec, so the tubers must be lifted and stored in a frost-free location over winter.
Plant the tubers in spring after all danger of frost has passed, 10 to 15 cm (4 to 6 in) deep in rich, fertile, organic, and well-drained soil. Choose a location in full sun and space plants approximately 50 cm (20 in) apart to encourage good air circulation. Water lightly after planting, then regularly as growth accelerates, keeping the soil evenly moist without becoming waterlogged. Fertilize every two weeks while avoiding excessive nitrogen, remove spent flowers regularly, and stake the stems if needed. Lift the tubers before the first frost and store them in a cool, dry location.
The ‘Cherry Flambe’ mix is perfect for sunny flower beds, colourful borders, large containers, and cutting gardens. Its rich colours pair beautifully with cosmos, salvias, verbenas, zinnias, and ornamental grasses to create vibrant, dramatic, and richly textured displays. The decorative and cactus flowers have excellent vase life and produce striking bouquets throughout the season, especially when the water is changed regularly. Their abundant blooms also bring life to the garden and attract a variety of pollinators. Frequent harvesting and regular deadheading encourage continuous flowering until the first frost.
