Coral Reef Peony Mix (Paeonia lactiflora ‘Coral Reef’) brings together magnificent garden peonies with large double and semi-double flowers in luminous shades of coral, pink, and creamy white. Their fragrant blooms, appearing from May to June, bring a romantic and refined presence to spring landscapes. Carried on long, sturdy stems, the flowers rise elegantly above green foliage and reach approximately 100 cm (40 in) tall. Hardy to Zone 3, this long-lived perennial easily withstands Quebec winters and generally becomes more floriferous as it matures.
Plant the tuberous roots in spring or fall in rich, deep, fertile, and well-drained soil, positioning the buds approximately 5 cm (2 in) below the surface. Choose a location in full sun and space plants approximately 60 cm (24 in) apart to promote good air circulation. Water moderately after planting, then keep the soil lightly moist during establishment and dry periods. An application of mature compost or balanced fertilizer in spring supports flowering without encouraging excessive foliage growth. Avoid moving established peonies and cut back yellowing foliage in fall.
The ‘Coral Reef’ mix is ideal for sunny flower beds, flowering borders, cutting gardens, and romantic-style landscapes. Its soft colours pair beautifully with irises, delphiniums, salvias, catmints, and roses, creating rich and elegant spring displays. The large, fragrant flowers have excellent vase life and are especially well suited to bouquets, receptions, and refined floral arrangements. They also attract a variety of pollinators while in bloom. Peonies can be slow to establish and may require a few growing seasons before flowering abundantly, but once settled, they enhance the garden for many years.
