'Sangre' Potato (Solanum tuberosum). A versatile variety with red skin and white flesh. The 'Sangre' potato is an early to mid-season variety, prized for its smooth, dark red skin and creamy white flesh. Known for its high productivity and excellent storage qualities, it is perfect for a wide variety of culinary uses: creamy mashed potatoes, roasted, boiled, or in salads. Easy to grow, it adapts to different soil types and offers good uniformity in size, making it an ideal choice for both beginner and experienced gardeners. Width/Spread: 14 cm (6 in) per plant. Quantity: 500 g (approximately 5 to 8 tubers).
April to May, as soon as the soil reaches 8-10°C and there is no longer a risk of frost. Open-ground method. Then, prepare the soil by loosening it and incorporating compost or well-rotted manure. Then, plant the tubers 9 cm (4 in) deep, with the sprouts facing upwards. Then, space each plant 30 to 40 cm (12 to 16 in) apart, in rows spaced 70 cm (28 in) apart. Then, cover with soil and water lightly. When the plants reach 20-25 cm (8 to 10 in) in height, mound soil around the stems to protect the tubers from light and prevent them from turning green.
Repeat the operation once or twice during the season. Pot or grow bag cultivation. Then, choose a large container (minimum 40 cm (16 in) deep). Then, plant the tubers in 15 cm (6 in) of potting soil, then cover. Then, add potting soil gradually as the plant grows. Then, water regularly without waterlogging the soil. Tip: Well-drained soil and crop rotation help prevent diseases like blight or scab. Let the potatoes dry on the ground for a few hours before storing them. Storage: Store them in a cool, dark, and well-ventilated place to extend their shelf life. Versatile in cooking: purees, roasts, salads, and boiled.
