Van Noort
‘Kelsey Annie Joy’ is a collarette dahlia with peach-orange outer petals and a small collar of pink petals surrounding a golden centre. Growing approximately 80 cm tall, it suits sunny garden borders, producing fresh flowers through summer and until frost in favourable conditions. Each package contains one clump of dahlia tubers for planting.
Plant in spring after the last local frost, once the soil has warmed. Provide full sun and fertile, well-drained soil, adding compost if needed. Set the tuber clump approximately 10 cm deep with the growing eyes facing upwards, and leave about 50 cm between plants to give them room to grow. Install a stake at planting time if the site is exposed to wind.
Combine its apricot and pink shades with cream, purple or blue flowers for a warm garden display; the open flower centres are also accessible to pollinators. Water at soil level as needed to maintain even moisture without waterlogging, and remove spent blooms to extend flowering. Dahlia tubers are frost tender: in Canadian regions with freezing winters, lift them after the first light frost blackens the foliage but before the ground freezes, then store them in a cool, frost-free place.
