‘Firestarter’ crocosmia, also known as montbretia, carries orange-red flowers with yellow markings along arching stems. Its summer blooms stand out against green, sword-shaped foliage, adding vivid colour to garden beds and cut-flower bouquets. Each pack contains five dormant corms for spring planting.

In Canada, plant in spring once the soil has warmed and the risk of hard frost has passed in your area. Choose full sun or light shade and fertile, well-drained soil that retains some moisture. Set the pointed end of each corm upward at a depth of about three times its thickness, spacing the corms 10 cm apart. Water them in, then water during dry spells throughout the growing season.

Plant in groups for a bold accent alongside dahlias, salvias or other warm-coloured flowers. Allow the foliage to yellow naturally after flowering so the corms can replenish their reserves. In regions with severe winters, grow in a container or plan to bring the dormant corms into a frost-free place. Avoid waterlogged winter soil and divide clumps when they become crowded.
