From bulb to bloom

‘Red Pontiac’ produces round to oblong potatoes with red skin and white flesh. This mid- to late-season variety provides a homegrown harvest for everyday meals. Each bag contains 2 kg of seed potatoes intended for planting.

In spring, plant once the ground has thawed, drained and warmed enough to work. Choose full sun and loose, fertile, well-drained soil. Set the tubers approximately 10 cm deep and about 30 cm apart, then gradually hill soil around the growing stems to keep developing potatoes protected from light.

Water consistently while the tubers develop without waterlogging the soil, and harvest storage potatoes once the foliage has dried. The harvested crop is suitable for boiling and baking. Handle it gently to prevent bruising and store in a cool, dry, dark place. Remove all green, damaged or sprouting parts before preparing the potatoes and discard severely affected tubers. Do not eat bitter-tasting potatoes or the sprouts.
