From bulb to bloom

Bulb typeRacines tubéreuses de dahlia
Quantity per pack3 souches
Bulb sizeNo 1

The ‘Sugar & Spice’ dahlia mix combines single white and pink flowers, sometimes touched with orange, with bronze foliage. Visible golden centres lend a light, informal character to the summer display. Each package contains three clumps of dahlia tubers.

Plant in spring after the last local frost, once the soil has warmed. Choose full sun and fertile, well-drained soil. Set the tuber clumps approximately 10 cm deep with the growing eyes facing upwards, leaving about 50 cm between plants. A large, well-drained container can also accommodate the mix, provided each plant has enough room.

The dark foliage sets off the pale flowers in borders and pots. Water regularly at soil level, especially in containers, without leaving the roots in standing water; remove spent blooms to encourage flowering. In Canadian regions with freezing winters, lift the tubers after the first light frost blackens the foliage but before the ground freezes, then store them in a cool, frost-free place.
