Holiday vermiculite is an expanded natural mineral used in horticulture to improve water retention and the structure of growing media. Its layered structure allows it to absorb a large amount of moisture while maintaining sufficient porosity to ensure aeration of the root system. This helps stabilize substrate moisture, an important factor for germination and the development of young plants.

Thanks to its lightness and stability, vermiculite is easily incorporated into various growing mixes. It does not decompose and acts as a durable structural amendment. Its use is particularly relevant in substrates for seedlings, cuttings, and potted plants that benefit from a regularly moist but well-aerated root environment.

How to Use

  • Incorporate vermiculite into potting soils to increase the substrate's water retention capacity.
  • Generally mix between 10% and 40% of the total volume, depending on the needs of the cultivated plants.
  • Use in seedling substrates to maintain constant moisture favorable for germination.
  • Employ in rooting mixes to provide a stable environment that promotes root development.
  • Combine with other components such as perlite, coir, or peat to balance drainage and water retention.

Relevant Plants

  • Indoor potted plants
  • Horticultural seedlings and young plants
  • Propagation of cuttings
  • Ornamental plants requiring regular moisture
  • Substrate mixes for container growing

Features and Benefits

High Water Retention

Its expanded structure absorbs and retains moisture, helping to maintain a stable hydration level in the substrate.

Air-Water Balance

Despite its retention capacity, vermiculite maintains a porous structure that allows air circulation around the roots.

Lightweight Substrate

Its low weight helps lighten growing mixes, facilitating the handling of horticultural pots and containers.

Stable and Inert Material

Vermiculite does not degrade over time and does not alter the chemical composition of the substrate.

Ideal for Seedlings and Cuttings

Maintaining constant moisture creates a favorable environment for the germination and rooting of young plants.

Compaction Prevention

By improving the overall texture of the mix, it helps maintain a flexible substrate, allowing for more efficient root development.
