Arugula 'Da Orto' (Eruca vesicaria), offered by the seed company Weston Seeds

Arugula  'Da Orto' is an annual variety prized for its strong leaves and delicious nutty flavour. When young, its 5-15cm shoots add a zesty kick to fresh salads, while its more mature leaves can be steamed as a tasty vegetable. The first harvests can begin around 30 days after germination, and by regularly cutting back the young shoots, the plant will continue to produce foliage until it flowers.

Cultivation method:

Sow seeds directly in the ground in rich, well-drained soil from mid-May to the end of the month, or start them indoors 4 to 6 weeks before the last frost date. Maintain a temperature of 70°F (21°C) for quick germination (5 to 10 days), then move the seedlings to slightly cooler conditions before hardening off and transplanting them outdoors once the danger of frost has passed.

Plant seeds 1/8" (3mm) deep, spacing 1" (2.5cm) apart. Thin out to 12" (30cm) to allow for proper development. Water regularly to maintain consistent moisture and harvest young shoots to prolong production.

A versatile and tasty rocket!

Arugula 'Da Orto' is ideal for gardeners looking for an easy-to-grow, versatile and tasty plant. Whether used in salads, as a garnish or cooked, it brings a touch of freshness and intensity to your dishes. A must-have addition to any vegetable garden!
