description
Swiss chard 'Perpetual Da Taglio' (Beta vulgaris var. cicla), offered by the seed company Weston Seeds
'Perpetual Da Taglio' Swiss chard is a highly productive heirloom variety, prized for its smooth, dark green leaves and slender, pale green ribs. It grows upright and regrows quickly after cutting, making it ideal for continuous harvests throughout the season. The young leaves are tender and flavorful, perfect in salads or stir-fries, while the mature leaves retain an excellent texture.
Height: 30 to 40 cm
Spacing: 35 to 45 cm
Sowing: Direct sowing
Exposure: Full sun
Quantity per packet: 200 to 230 seeds, untreated, non-GMO
Cultivation method:
Swiss chard prefers well-drained soil with a pH between 6.5 and 7.5. Sow the seeds 1 to 2 cm deep and 2.5 cm apart in rows 45 cm apart from mid-spring. Repeat sowing every two weeks until early summer for a continuous supply. Gradually thin to 10 cm apart, using the seedlings as baby greens. To harvest, first cut the outer leaves at the base, working towards the center; this encourages continuous and vigorous regrowth.
