Rapini 'Broccoli Rabe Sessantina' (Brassica rapa), offered by the seed company Weston Seeds

Rapini 'Sessantina' is a traditional heirloom variety from Puglia, known for its production of tender young leaves and flowering shoots with small florets reminiscent of broccoli. Eaten together, the leaves and stems offer a robust, slightly bitter flavor that will enhance your dishes. By regularly harvesting the stems, young leaves, and flower buds, you can extend the harvest by 2 to 4 weeks.

Cultivation method:

Sow directly into well-drained soil in early spring or late summer for a fall harvest. Plant seeds 1/4" (6 mm) deep and space 1" (2.5 cm) apart in rows 12" (30 cm) apart. Once established, thin to 12 to 14 inches apart to allow full development.

Maintain even moisture and fertilize with a balanced fertilizer (20-20-20) to promote vigorous growth. Watch for high temperatures, which can cause accelerated flowering and loss of flavor.

A robust and tasty variety!

Rapini 'Sessantina' is an ideal choice for gardeners looking for a quick and flavorful crop. Perfect sautéed, in soups or with pasta, it brings an authentic touch of Italian cuisine to your table. A must-have for a spread-out and delicious harvest!
