Cultivation method:

For early crops, start seeds indoors in late March to early April in a soilless mix. Transplant seedlings outdoors in late April to early May, spacing plants 12 to 14 inches (30 to 35 cm) apart and rows 36 inches (90 cm) apart.

For late crops, direct sow seeds in late summer for a fall harvest. 'Calabrese Precoce' broccoli prefers cool conditions for optimal growth.

Fertilize regularly and maintain even watering to encourage bud development. Be sure to weed frequently to limit competition. If buds become heavy, staking may be necessary. Harvest the central bud when the buds are tight and compact, well before flowering. Once the main bud is cut, the side shoots will continue to produce throughout the season.
