Red cabbage 'Red Cappuccio' – ( Brassica oleracea var. capitata ), provided by Weston Seeds

'Red Cappuccio' red cabbage is a robust, fast-growing heirloom variety that produces beautiful, compact heads of a vibrant, deep purple-red. Ideal for home gardens, it is distinguished by its small to medium-sized heads, approximately 12 cm (5 inches) in diameter, weighing between 1 and 1.8 kg (2 to 4 lb). Perfect for salads, cooked dishes, or fermentation, this cabbage adds a touch of color and flavor to your recipes.

Cultivation method:

Sow the seeds indoors in a soilless mix 5 to 6 weeks before the last expected frost date. Plant the seeds at a depth of 6 mm (1/4 inch) and maintain a germination temperature of 20°C (70°F). When the seedlings are large enough, grow them in a slightly cooler temperature to encourage growth, then harden them off before transplanting them outdoors in late May.

Plant in fertile, well-drained soil, spacing plants 23 to 30 cm (9 to 12 inches) apart and rows 75 cm (30 inches) apart. Red Mammoth Cabbage prefers cool days, with ideal daytime temperatures of 12 to 21°C (55 to 70°F) and nighttime temperatures of 4 to 10°C (40 to 50°F).

For a better harvest, grow this variety in late summer to take advantage of the cool autumn temperatures. Spring to summer crops will not produce buds as dense as those harvested in autumn.

A versatile and aesthetically pleasing variety:

Mammoth Red cabbage is a must-have for gardeners seeking a reliable and flavorful variety. It's perfect for both fresh and cooked recipes, and its deep red color makes it a striking visual addition to your dishes. An easy-to-grow variety, ideal for both beginners and experienced gardeners.
