Chantenay 'Royal 2' carrot (Daucus carota), offered by the seed company Weston Seeds

The Chantenay 'Royal 2' carrot is a versatile variety producing short, thick, orange, and flavorful roots, measuring approximately 5 to 6 inches. Easy to grow, they thrive in a variety of soils and are prized for their crisp texture and excellent flavor. Their compact shape and blunt tip make them an ideal all-purpose carrot for fresh cooking, roasting, preserving, or vegetable mixes.

Height: 15 to 20 cm
Spacing: 8 cm
Sowing: Direct sowing
Exposure: Full sun
Quantity per packet: 1,500 seeds, untreated, non-GMO

Cultivation method:
Carrots grow well in deep, loose, well-worked soil. Because the seeds are small, it's helpful to mix them with a little sand to ensure even sowing. When the soil temperature is above 7.5°C (45°F), sow at a depth of 7 to 15 mm (¼ to 6 in) in rows spaced 45 to 60 cm (18 to 24 in). Maintain consistent moisture during germination, which takes about two weeks, and prevent soil crusting. Thin to 5 cm (2 in) apart when the seedlings are young. Water regularly, weed carefully, and avoid fertilizers high in nitrogen. Harvest when the roots have developed a good color and are well-formed.

The availability of our seeds varies depending on seasonal availability, production schedules and supplier inventory. Certain varieties may only be offered for a limited time based on their natural growth cycle, sowing period or available stock. These product pages are designed to help and inspire gardeners in choosing the right seeds for vegetable gardens, flower beds, pollinator gardens, container growing, naturalization projects and sustainable outdoor spaces.
