'Mezzo Lungo' cucumber (Cucumis sativus), offered by the seed company Weston Seeds

The 'Mezzo Lungo' cucumber is a productive gynoecious hybrid that yields long, straight, dark green fruits, 20 to 25 cm in diameter, with a fresh flavor and crisp texture. Adapted to a wide range of growing conditions, it stands out as an excellent slicing variety for fresh consumption. Because the majority of flowers are female, fruit production is abundant and consistent throughout the season, making it a favorite among gardeners and market gardeners.

Height: 90 to 120 cm
Spacing: 30 to 35 cm (or 120 cm between hills)
Sowing: Indoor or direct sowing
Exposure: Full sun
Quantity per packet: 60 to 80 seeds, untreated, non-GMO

Cultivation method:
Cucumbers prefer a warm, sandy loam soil rich in organic matter. Work the soil to a depth of 30 cm, incorporating compost or well-rotted manure. Sow when the soil temperature reaches at least 18°C to prevent seed rot. Form mounds 15 to 20 cm high and 30 to 60 cm in diameter, spaced approximately 120 cm apart, then sow 6 to 8 seeds per mound at a depth of 2 cm. After germination, thin to 3 or 4 plants per mound. In confined spaces, train the plants on trellises. Water regularly and evenly to prevent bitterness, and protect the plants from late frosts. Harvest the fruits by gently cutting them to avoid damaging the plants.

The availability of our seeds varies depending on seasonal availability, production schedules and supplier inventory. Certain varieties may only be offered for a limited time based on their natural growth cycle, sowing period or available stock. These product pages are designed to help and inspire gardeners in choosing the right seeds for vegetable gardens, flower beds, pollinator gardens, container growing, naturalization projects and sustainable outdoor spaces.
