Cucumber 'Carosello Spuredda Leccese' (Cucumis melo), offered by Weston Seeds

?? A cucumber that isn't really one! ??

The 'Carosello Spuredda Leccese' is a heritage variety from Puglia , halfway between a cucumber and a melon . Unlike classic cucumbers, this fruit belongs to the melon family and develops a crunchy, sweet and juicy flesh, without any bitterness. Its distinctive appearance – a light green skin adorned with dark green stripes – makes it a unique element in the garden and on the plate!

?? Why choose between cucumber and melon when you can have both?

Cultivation method

'Carosello Spuredda Leccese' cucumbers thrive in rich, well-drained, loamy soil . Loosen the soil to a depth of 30 cm (12 inches) and incorporate a generous amount of compost or composted manure before planting.

Wait until soil temperature is at least 66°F (18°C) before sowing to prevent seed rot. Mound the seeds 6–8 inches (15–20 cm) high , spaced 4 feet (120 cm) apart. Sow 6–8 seeds per mound , 3/4 inch (2 cm) deep . Once established, thin to 3–4 plants per mound .

?? Tip : Grow plants on a trellis to save space and get more uniform fruit.
