Chia microgreens
description
Chia seeds for germination (Salvia hispanica), offered by the seed company Weston Seeds
Chia sprouts form delicate, green, slender stems that add a light texture and a mild, vegetal note to salads, sandwiches, wraps, or fresh toppings. Easy to grow, they germinate quickly and develop into a uniform carpet when sown on the surface. Their elegant appearance and simple cultivation make them a popular microgreen for everyday use.
Height: 4 to 6 cm
Spacing: Close-cropped surface area
Sowing: Indoor germination
Exposure: Soft light
Quantity per packet: 40g of seeds, untreated, non-GMO
Cultivation method:
Use a natural clay surface, a thick, unbleached paper towel, or a thin layer of soil. Soak the seeds for a few minutes, then spread them evenly over the moistened surface. Mist at least twice a day to maintain consistent moisture, but avoid over-watering. Chia sprouts grow quickly and are ready to harvest in a few days. They can also be added to small sprout mixes to enhance the flavor. Allow to dry slightly before refrigerating.
Soaking
A brief soaking of 5 to 10 minutes is enough to activate the seeds and facilitate their distribution.
Yield
One tablespoon of seeds produces approximately one cup of thin, uniform sprouts.
Storage
Store unsprouted seeds in a cool, dry place. The refrigerator or freezer provides excellent storage and maintains a good germination rate.
